குறைந்த அளவு மண் கண்டத்திலும் தாக்குபிடித்து வளரும், 
கார அமில நிலை 7.5- 8.5 விரும்பத்தக்கது. 9.5 பிற பழமரங்கள் வளரமுடியாத நிலையிலும் கூட தாக்கு பிடிக்கும். காற்றிலே ஈரப்பதமான சூழ்;நிலையும், மகரந்தச் சேர்க்கைக்கு தேனீக்களின் உதவியும் அவசியம் தேவை.
